escort wont start

i was driving the other day up a hill on hard accel and my 1993 escort lx died then i pulled over and it started and worked no problem, then today i drove to a friends house and i ended up getting towed home. it doesnt seem to have spark i pulled the plug out and held it to the alternator bracket and had my friend turn the car over and there wasnt any spark. please help i need to know if its the car or an engine part(going to swap 1.9 for 2.0).

How about basic tune up information like when the plug wires repalced? coil pack checked? and check the timing belt.

=the plugs and wires were changed about 2200 miles ago and the timing belt about 1700, but it also doesnt seem to be getting fuel(checked pressure relief), my neihbor thinks it might be the crank position sensor, but i would like to know for sure.thanx
