inner tie rod

hey whats up guys and gals.......im new to this forum and i just got a 96 cutlass supreme 4 door 3.1 auto......it has 79k on the ticker and needs some work......first is i have to do the inner tie rod on the passenger side.....i was just wondering if anyone has done one of these before and ifso the best way to go about it.....as in do i have to take the rack out or can i do it with the rack still in the car........also has anyone ever done a conversion from column shift to floor shift.....if so how much of a pain in the azz is it.....and what cars could i use seats and console and shifter parts from......well i think thats about it for now........thanks.........

Hey soulsurvives... I have a 95 cutlass supreme 4 dr. and i have to replace the outer tie rod. I'm not sure but it looks to me that the entire rack has to come out. If you're not sure, take a minute and call a shop that does wheel alignments or if you want to email me tonight, i will look it up in my chiltons manual...

No the rack does NOT have to be removed. BUT, you need a special tool to remove the tie rod from the rack. It's kind of an extra-long 2-piece socket, and the end fits around the inside of the tie rod. You'll know what I'm talking about when you look at the new one. But it's not a terribly difficult job. Just remove the outer tie rod, the boot, then the inner.

thanks for the replys.....dwalmop this tool, can it be gotten at an automotive store like autozone or advance auto.....of course i will know this before you reply as i am doing it in the morning.....anyway.....thanks again for the replys.......
