replacing rear shocks-problem

i'm trying to replace my rear shocks on a 91 4x4. Problem number one, when i unbolted the top of the shocks, the ears that the bolts fit into snapped off. Also, i've been using numerous extentions on my rachet just to get to those bolts. Is there an easier way to access these bolts?

Re: replacing rear shocks-problem

Are you saying that the ears broke off the shocks? Usually the only time these will break is when the bolts are loose.

They are a pain to do because you have to hold the nut above the frame with a wrench while loosening the bolt from under. I usually use the long entension with a socket to get the ratchet below the lower mount. That way you keep a tight angle.

It's hard to say without seeing it but my guess is you'll need to have something fabricated and welded in.
