trunk latch

i have an 89 RS, and my trunk latch is being retarded. i was thinking about taking the whole thing out and converting to a non power trunk lid, if that is possible? has anybody ever done this? my trunk has lots of problems, the bolts where the rail thing is mounted to the frame, lkeeps coming loose, and pulls the motor in stead of pulling the hatch down, so rain water gets into it, and makes lakes inside the trunk!

any help would be appreciated,
thanks/.

You mean hatch pull down?
It isn't a simple swap from a car with one to one without. the cars with the pull down have a 3 piece fastening system at the back of the trunk. The cars without a pull down have a 1 piece welded in bracket.
To fix the pull down and have it work like/better than new see Lon at: http://www.top-downsolutions.com/pro...e2864386760323

This is the kit you need http://www.top-downsolutions.com/pro...e2864386760323

Well, anything is possible but this particular mod would be quite a bit of work. Removing the motor and sliding bracket is a no brainer, now we get to the sticky part, making a bracket to hold the lower latch that you can adjust and bolt in place of the motor bracket and is strong enough to do the job. Next is getting the proper installed heigth so the hatch is sealed all the way and sitting flush with the rear fenders like it is supposed to. Figure this will take several adjustments to get right. now once you have everything set right you are going to need to weld that bracket into the car because to close these hatches without the pull down means slamming them and this will quickly ruin the alignment on your bracket without welding.
