Unhappy Help Fast Crank Pully Removal!!! Please Help

I am changing the head gasket on my 99 neon dohc and I cant seem to get the crank pully bolt out without the engine turning. Ive tried putting it in gear and havin someone hit the brakes but the engine still turns. Do I need a special tool? I need to do this quick but this is the only thing holding me up, does anyone have any ideas??? Thanks for any help.

you can take a propane torch heat up the pully and then give it a little love tap with a hammer and it should loosen up

Do not use a torch if you heat things up too much you will be changeing the crank seal next. I took a big screw driver and stuck it through one of the pie shape hole in the pulley the pried off of the block to get the bolt to lossen up. If that does not work you may want to see if you can barrow a impact wrench.

I did my daughter's '96 last fall. I braced a long handled 1/2 drive ratchet against the ground and cranked the engine, cam right off.

Re: Help Fast Crank Pully Removal!!! Please Help

Thanks for all your help, I found somethin on the net by putting it in 5th gear and have someone hold the brake and the bolt came right off. Anyways the job is almost complete now just need to put the motor mount, power steering pump, intake manifold and valve cover on oh yea and hook up all the wiring. Its goin pretty good i only work on it an hour a day cause school and work.
thanks for the help
