When driving, I sometimes hear a loud knocking noise from the back left driverside, the side the gas tank is on. This is not the high-pitched, metallic 'pinging' noise talked about for engine knocking, but it is a literal knocking as if someone is banging on my window side. Everytime I hear it, I turn around and look to see who is there. Thats what i sounds like. And of course no one is there unless a ghost is knocking on that side of my car. Anyone have any idea what this noise could be?

It sounds like something is worn out in your suspension, If it happens over bumps then it is most likely the sway bar end links or bushings.
