1999 taurus interior lights are staying on. help!

my interior lights are staying on. both my dome lights are staying on when key is out of ignition. i arm the alarm system and the lights never shut off. it has already burned out the front interior lights and started melting the rear dome light cover. i replaced the gem module and there was no change. every day i have to pull fuse 23 (gem, pats, rap module) to save my battery. if i remove/unplug all the lights that are staying on i still have a 0.400 amp drain on the battery which is draining the battery overnight. what are some things that keep the dome lights on? thanks for all the suggestions you can give me.

Are you sure your dimmer switch is off? At the max brightness if you push further, it will click, and those lights you describe will come on and stay on, no matter what. This happened to my daughter, she called me from hundreds of miles away, in panic, that they couldn't make the interior lights turn off. I suggested the dimmer switch. It worked, that was the culprit. Also, that switch could be faulty as well.

Re: 1999 taurus interior lights are staying on. help!

that was the problem. i guess i forgot the first rule in auto mechnics. k.i.s.s. (keep it simple stupid)
1 more question. the current drain dropped down to 0.230amps. according to everything i have been trained on that is very high still. i left it there for about 15 minutes and it still didnt drop below that amperage. is it possible if u can compare your drain to mine?
thanks

Did you by chance have the hood open with a hood light on when you measured that, or a door open? Or maybe the glovebox was open?

I am almost positive the Taurus GEM does not shut off all accessories for up to 45 minutes. You can shortcut it by touching the cable to battery, hook uo meter then separate cable from battery.

Re: 1999 taurus interior lights are staying on. help!

Greetings. I too have this problem. I've checked the dash switches, but the lite stays on sometimes. I'm curious to know how the lite knows the door is closed, as there is no visible door switch. Is there an internal door switch?

Door latch. You might try lubricating the latch in your doors.

I had this problem as well with the interior lights staying on. Turned out to be the door ajar switch in the door had gone bad. Ended up having to replace both.

I had the same problem. I lubricated the door latches with WD-40 and the problem went away.
