I just purchased a 97 Passat GLX vr6 sedan with 145K on it, I bought it from a friend, no owners manual, only 1 key, here are my questions.
1. Where is the fuel door release button? I looked everywhere and can't find it. I think it might be in conjunction with the trunk release in the back of the car, push in kind of deal. If it is, then this is busted, cause it doesn't work. 2. I want to change out the factory cassette stereo with an aftermarket sony, the factory stereo has a blinking light for the alarm, if I undo the wires for the stereo unit, will the alarm lead mess with other functions of the car if I disconnect it? if not, maybe I'll install a separate led somewhere. We didn't get an unlock remote with it, so maybe illl have to get that from manufacturer also. I'm concerned about the stereo/alarm function though, I don't have any codes for the car, I'm not worried about the alarm not working though. There is an led on the driver's side lock that blinks to warn of the alarm. 3. My rear drivers side passenger door is sticking also, can only be opened from the inside...any suggestions? thanks for your posts. v/r ssurj |

1) should be in center console on in storage cabinet in center console. Or on driver side door. If there is no swtich then the door is a push in to open deal.
2) Aftermarket radios dont function well w/ vw's It will only cause problems. But you will have a nice radio. 3) The door handles normally break on these and cause the door to not open on outside, you will most likely need a new door handle assembly but w/o taking it apart you cant know whats broke. |

Re: New '97 Passat GLX vr6 owner- Questions
I have a 97 GLX and there is no fuel door release button. The fuel door remains locked until you either unlock all the doors with your key in the driver's door (key in lock rotate CCW twice) or you push the inside drivers door lock down and then pull it up. You will then be able to open the fuel door by pressing against the door.
