Who has really fixed the leak???

Hey fellas, new to this site, but have been feeling the Grand Prix pain for 2 years now. Actually, my 2000 GT coupe is a great car, except for one big problem: yep, that stupid leak in the passenger floorboard.
Now, I've seen posts on this before. Under the plastic cowl is solid, that sucker is sealed to the windshield, and the weatherstripping is great. Someone told me the plastic cowl may be warped and I should get a new one. Dealer said it was $82.00 a side!!!!!!!!!!! But I really don't believe that's the problem.
Someone else told me about the rubber grommit for the wiring harness under the carpet where it comes out just below the dash. The grommit wasn't flush, so I sealed that up good. But I don't think that's the problem, cause that's where the subframe connects, and wouldn't the car have to be moving for water to get in there?
I've heard about holes in the firewall. DOes anybody know anything about that, and where it is? I had my glovebox out the other day and I was contorted under the dash, couldn't see crap there's soo much up there!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Any help would be great. Like I said, the car's great besides this. But this problem is very annoying and the carpet is on it's way out. Only $120 for a new carpet, but I need this problem fixed. I was soo pissed at this the other day that I went to look at the new stang (they're still crap!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!).
Guys, don't let this push me to get a Toyota. IF anyone has an answer, your help would be appreciated.
Thank you in advance.

Scott M.God Bless you on this Resurrection Sunday!!!!!

Re: Water On Floor

I appreciate your help. I will look into the heater hose, but I do not believe that it's the problem, since I get the leak from heavy rainfall only, and my heater works fine.
Thank you again.

I have same problem

First of all, pull the carpet up and leave it this way. In my 99 gp there is a hole in the floor, u just have to remove thet round piece of rubber. It helps to remove water. I had about 2 inch of water over there. Now, when the place is dry figure out where is the water coming from.... rain or a/c. In my case it was water from the outside - rain. What i did, i just put silicone between windshield and plastic cowl. So right now water going down the windshield can't get under plastic. It works for me and it took me only few mins to fix it. Just remember to use clear silicone.

Also you could make sure your door is sealing tight against the weather strip. Mine doesnt on the driver side and I get water dripping on my leg when it rains. Just make sure everything is dry and run some water from a hose on the roof by the door for a while. Then open the door and see if the rubber stripping is wet anywhere where it sits against the frame. If it is thats where its leaking.

Re: Who has really fixed the leak???

There has been at least 100 post on htis in the last year. There is a lot of GP's with the same trouble. You will find it's the A/C drain. Runs off firewall, passager side.
Good luck.

Re: Who has really fixed the leak???

There seem's to be 3 thing's that can cause the leak.

1.The rubber seal that is about 6/8 in long under the cowl. The clips go bad and the rubber seal start's to fall off,so it no longer deflects the water away from the opening. In the picture you can see the rubber seal under the cowl above the opening.Best to not use the clip's and get some 3M Yellow window adhisive , clean the aerea where the seal sit's on and apply the adhisive, then place the rubber molding back in place.

2.Leaking seal from the windshield. If the windshield has ever been replaced that can also be a cause of the problem.

3.HVAC drain tube.If you notice in the above picture alot of debris, leaves, pine needles ect, ect, can fall into the HAVC box and plug the drain tube.On the passenger side of the engine compartment on the lower part of the firewall pointing under the car. It is a small, black hose, shaped like an upside-down L.Pull it off and clean out the hose and replace it. IIRC it's a bit down, so you might have to reach

Good luck with your leak !
