VVTL-I Questions

Im interested in buying a 01 celica gt at a local car dealer and after looking at it the and under the hood thought it just had the 1zzge motor then the salesman said its got the VVTL-I and it pushes near 200 hp and all it has is exhaust with dual 4" exhaust tips. I was thrown off by this because i havent heard anything about a VVTL-I, only the 2zzg vs the 1zzg. If someone could clear this up for me or just say that the salesman is a dolt that would be great.

THX
