Question 98 windstar cam timing code and traction light

my 98 windstar occasionally runs rough for a second on accelleration and the traction off light flashes and the check engine light is on. It throws a cam position sensor but that didn't fix it.
What next? not the cam I hope. it has 92,000 miles on it.
thank you, floyd

I had to replace the camshaft position syncroniser also. That is the part that the sensor is bolted to. Mine was chirping and the trac control light would not go off until I replaced it.It is the same as replacing a distributor on an older vehicle and the fuel rail had to be pulled up enough for the syncro to slide up past it. Syncroniser=$75.00 give or take.I'm not a certified mech. ,it's just what happened to me, but I do all my own work.

Well I can't promise you it's the syncro. but if you want to try it you can. I took note of which way the sensor was pointing and find somewhere to mark it. They make some sort of piece that you put on top in place of the sensor to align the syncro. but I did'nt feel like wasting time looking for one. When I went to pull it out it hit the in line of the fuel rail so I had to pull the top intake then the fuel rails and injectors. They just pull right out if you wiggle a little.Don't get dirt on them, lay an old shirt on top of the engine to lay the assembly on. Slide the old syncro out the new one in in the exact position and wiggle til it falls in. Please refer to the haynes manual not to me.I'm the guy that assembles first then looks at the instructions only if I have a problem.
