Problems with my 60 p/u

ive been having problems with my 60 chevy apache 10 for a while now, ive almost giving up cause of this one problem. i have been trying to get the truck timed and idle right but i cant get it there. just about everything on the truck is brand new ive spent the last 5 years restoring it, and now this is holding it back from the road. ill get it to idle nicely but try and time it but as soon as i move it the idle changes. so i will retune the idle and it will shut off. i keep trying and trying but when i get close to having it i get in my truck and hit the gas, and if hesitates for a sec or 2 then it runs like crap. please any help is apreciated. oh its a 235 inline 6 with a mild cam, and stock carb, single barrel

Did you unplug the timing connector under the dash?

Seriously tho, the only thing I can think of is the distributor shaft wobbling.
