they seem like decent speakers for the price. What's y'alls opinion?

OK, you need more detail. I have a Sony cassette head unit, and am getting a Sony Xplod 10 CD changer. The head unit is a 45W x 4. I need to know if these speakers will pretty much handle the power my Sony stereo puts out? And is the bass gonna not fart out on me? Will it hold the deep booming bass that the bass boost on my Stereo puts out?

your headunit will only put out a true 20x4 or so. no headunit is ever going to put out that much power, at least not til the next few years those pioneers will handle the power fine. i believe they take it 20watts ( i didn't really look at the specs) pioneers are very good replacement speakers. i have them and i love them.

i also think that pioneer speakers are great, i have a set of 5 1/4" coaxials up front and love them. however, i would recommend you stay away from pioneer subwoofers. i have a pioneer 12, not the premeir, and i have a kenwood amp that is running at 300x1 rms bridged and 600 max, which are the exact numbers that the pioneer should be able to handle, but without even turning my gain up and just having my low pass crossover on, i have messed up the surround in 6 months.

maybe you had bad luck with it? i have pioneer subs that work fine even with the gains halfway. is the pioneer broken-in properly? is the bass boost on the amp on?

Thanks for your help. I chose Circuit City cuz its right by my house and i can get them installed there for cheap. Do you think I could instal them myself? I don't have much wiring experience. I drive a '95 civic EX coupe. Once again, thanks for y'all's help.

yo, first off don't get the warranty and also sparq will try to hook u up (unless he rips you off haha )
I had pioneer speakers before, they are quite muddy for my ears, but they play good bass. Just don't expect deep tones to come out.

yeah, extended warrenties are ripoffs.

And wha'chu mean "don't expect deep tones to come out?" I know its not a sub, but are you...I mean.... Damnit it sounds like you are contradicting yourself!

Alright, here's a clear question: If I have my radio on, and Ja Rule starts playing, and my volume is up at say, half power, bass full, will it sound clean and rich? Will the windows rattle? will my pant legs vibrate?

There, that will pretty much tell me whether they are good or not!

also, if sparq can hook me up then I'm all for it!!!

save yourself on installation. typical speaker install at stores will run you about $15-$30. install it by yourself is better. its as easy as positive to positive and negative to negative. in addition to that, you get to install it (it's fun ) and not have to worry about them messing up your car.

here is a little story about my neighbor's experience with the installation of a local shop. well my neighbor wanted to replace his factory rear speakers with something better. he went to the local store and bought a 3-way 6"x9"(don't know brand). like most newbie, he does not know how to install it and doesn't have the time (at least he doesn't think he has). so then he had the local store install the speakers for him. when he came back to get the car, he turned on his deck to listen to it. 5 seconds after he had just turned it on, his clarion headunit got fried (according to the installer). then he had to get that replaced. they sold him a new alpine deck. they installed it because my neighbor doesn't know how. when they finished installing the deck, the front components went out. instead of buying new ones from the store, he just went home with his rear deck playing he later found out the pattern. for everything they install, something else gets messed up. for everything that gets messed up, he has to buy a new one. for every stuff that he buys, they have to install it. and everything repeats.

cliffnote: neighbor bought speakers, installer installed it, something else gets messed up, neighbor has to buy new ones, installer installed new stuff, something else get messed up. everything starts all over.


i'm not saying all installers are bad. just that when someone installs something for themselves, they usually feel more secure doing that. i dunno, maybe i don't like local stores?

Maybe... I would never do that, that seems rather criminal, BUT it can happen -- the new deck could have shot too much power the the speakers, and blown the fronts. Sometimes weird crap like that does happen -- but thats sounds too fishy to me.

sparq, a question for you:
how come my radio doesn't work after you installed it???? J/K

darkwing, it plays certain midbass frequencies well, but don't expect those low freq (like 50hx and below) to sound good loud.

i guess it should have shot too much power. but is 18x4 too much for a set of CDT audio components to handle

hey, point me to some pics and some info, I'm open for suggestions, not completely sold on those EXACT ones anyway. Oh yes, CHEAPER IS BETTER!! (as long as the quality is the same )

lol, I just liked those Pioneers because they seemed like pretty good quality for the price. You show me some speakers of the same quality or better for cheaper, and I'll more thn likely snag 'em. (BTW- my headunit is a SONY, dunno if that makes a difference...)
