Re: Im Confused About Plugs Installing Help
Sorry Kidlex, but if you have a 2.4 and you want NGK Iridiums, you need the NGK Iridium IX spark plugs. They are part# TR55IX.
Ok, so when you remove the IDI cover, you still need to remove the IDI - it holds your ignition module and coil packs, which mate directly with the tops of your spark plugs. If I'm not mistaken, there are four bolts holding on the IDI. Remove them, or whatever other fasteners are holding down the IDI module. You should then have a naked top of the engine - and you can look down and see the tops of the plugs. Remove them using a correctly sized spark plug socket. Install the new plugs, torque them down, reinstall the IDI, and you're done. |

Re: Im Confused About Plugs Installing Help
Kidlex01,
I gave you the instructions for the 2.4L That is what I have in my GAGT. The plastic housing that has the 4 plastic tubes with rubber "fingers" inside, these are your plug wires, they are only about 4 inches long. If you look down into the center of the engine you will see where the wires go into the the engine. They slid on to the top of the spark plugs. If you look into each of the slots/circles you will see the "Nut" part of the spark plugs. Use a spark plug socket to loosen the plug and remove it. Take your new plugs, the ones you bought should be good to use. Start the plugs in each cylinder by hand so that you do not cross thread the plugs. Tighten each plug and then put the cover back in place. Sorry if I confussed you, Let me know if you have any other problems |

Re: Im Confused About Plugs Installing Help
Ride You don't need to remove any thing other than the cover to get to the plugs. The 4 13mm bolts on the top of the cove and unplug the wire harness that's it. There is no need to get to the ign. module. the 2.4L is so simple that it can be confusing. Like I say 4 bolts on the cover, unplug wire harness, remove cover, change plugs, reinstall cover, plug in harness, install/tighten bolts, done

Re: Im Confused About Plugs Installing Help
Well yeh I didn't mean the actual ignition module itself, Dan. i meant the IDI unit as a whole (the cover). Good call though - I think we're confusing the hell out of kidlex here. Hopefully he should understand from what you just said - and you're right, it's so simple, sometimes it can sound confusing
LoL.

Re: Im Confused About Plugs Installing Help
Kidlex, If we are confusing you just let us know. Ask the questions that you have and Ridenour and I will make sure that you understand. We're not trying to get you all mixed up, we are two guys that are saying the same thing in two different ways.
Remember... just ask your questions until you have a complete understanding. We want to help you do it yourself. Sorry again if it got confussing. Dan |

Re: Im Confused About Plugs Installing Help
That's pretty much it. Make sure the pluge are tight but do not overtighten. If you have a torque wrench you should tight them to specks. If your going to use a torque wrench let me know I'll get you the spec. [I can't remember what it is right now] other wise just make sure everything is tight but not too tight the alum. tends to crack at times if things are too tight.
Well, good luck, if anything else comes up just ask. Dan |

Re: Im Confused About Plugs Installing Help
I just changed mine for the first time since the car was ever built, I have proof....[img]
![]() If I would have known this, I would have changed them sooner (I'm the second owner, it was a leaser). LOL My Camera Batteries died before I could take a pic of the one that's missing the very tip of the center electrode. Yep, this may be the cause to my miss problem that has cropt back up! Marc

Re: Im Confused About Plugs Installing Help
No problem Hoags, I get a lot of those (Brain Fart) LOL. Like when I tried uploading that pic, here's attempt number 2. These are both the exact same style plugs, both from my 2.4L. This is what leaves me to believe they are the original plugs that the factory put in 4yrs ago...[img]
