95 Taurus Tranny

I took off the trans pan and found a piece of metal around the magnate. It looked like a washer but in 3 pieces. Any help would be nice.

Well... Mileage? Is the car running well? Shifting smoothly?

it has 119,000. The engine runs great, but the tranny doesn't shift out of first gear, it goes about 25mph then revs up and catches again at about 10mph. I read something abot a VSS but I think it is the tranny. What do you think?
