Need help with 92 Tracer

I'm looking at this 92 Tracer and I want to buy it. It's only 100 bucks. No it's not a pile of rust. The body is actually in fairly good shape, just a few small rust spots, and it might need a rear strut. Engine runs good, no unusual noises, interior is good with no rips or tears, glass is good. A/C still seems to work. The only thing that seems to be wrong with it is that the gear shifter for the 4 speed auto tranny won't come out of park. There seems to be a lot of resistance against the gear shifter. Could it be that the linkage is just seized up or something? The car has been sitting for a while and hasn't been moved. I'm hoping this is something simple, I could really use a good cheap small car right now. Can anyone tell me how to get the gear shift working again?

Re: Need help with 92 Tracer

It is quite possible that the shift cable is rusted. It is not hard nor expensive to replace. On the newer cars there is a lock solenoid that locks the shifter until the brake is pushed. This releases the lock. Check to see if that has gone bad if it has that may cure your problem.
