Supercharged 420A? Does this kit work?!
I recently ran accross an auction on eBay for a 420A supercharger, so I looked into it. Apparently there is an "Eaton Supercharger Kit for all 2.0L 420A-equipped vehicles." At the Thomas Knight site (http://boosthead.com/product.php) they offer the supercharger and an adapter kit for the eclipse. It's insanely expensive to only get 215 hp at the fly, but it'd be unique!
-$3750 supercharger -$1000 adapter kit -10+ hours for install I know a turbo would be so much cheaper, but a supercharger is cooler, lasts longer, and is a little more linear in the hp curve. Has anybody heard of these kits, and of any install problems? I've heard of supercharging and turboing... Would it be a horrible idea to get the supercharger and a 16G turbo (as opposed to the 25G I originally wanted)? Basically... if anybody knows anything at all about this supercharger kit... let me know! Thanks! |

You cant supercharge and turbo a car. Just doesnt work. I would love to have a supercharger... but go with the turbo. Since we dont know what car you drive, I would say the turbo would be better, b.c. you might have one already. Much easier and cheaper

Re: Supercharged 420A? Does this kit work?!
since hes talking about a 420a he has a 2g NT. the supercharger is okay if you just want to be unique. it will definately give you more power then stock but i dont think it has as many options to upgrade it later though.

Quote:
It is supposed to eliminate the lag from the turbo, and have more top end than the supercharger.

Re: Supercharged 420A? Does this kit work?!
You're right, I have a '98 Eclipse, NT. As for the sc and tc on the same engine... It can be done (http://www.autospeed.com/cms/A_2216/article.html). It just has very few advantages. The supercharger has a linear power curve, while the turbo is more exponential. So the supercharger would help spool a large turbo quicker.
Reguardless... It's mainly just to have something a little different on my Eclipse. |

Thats crazy. Ive never heard of having both. I was always told it was impossible. Makes sense tho. Also seems like ALOT of work. My bad. And i totally missed the engine models. (420a) sorry

Re: Supercharged 420A? Does this kit work?!
Don't worry about it, David. It's deffinately not common at all... especially on a 2G Eclipse. In one of the responses I got from Thomas (Geoff) Knight I was told that only a dozen or so of these supercharger kits sold... It's max hp is 400hp. Most people want to be able to go above that eventually, and figure that they might as well get the turbo instead of both. I think that a supercharger is unique, and would have a ton of benefits over a turbo... and it would even help out with spooling the turbo...
Overall, I'm looking for a unique, stable system. I'll be purchasing the kit in a two or three months. As soon as I get it on I'll post pics and numbers. Thanks for the input! |
