1998 mountaineer overdrive button/fuse

I have a mountaineer that has a button on the shifter that takes the transmission out of overdrive. The button works good -but i keep blowing the fuse only when i shift gears ---this fuse also works my r/defroster and my reverse lights. Any help would be appreciated

Re: 1998 mountaineer overdrive button/fuse

the wire likes to short out just as it exits the shifter stalk aginst the steerign column - remove the column covers and inspect the twisted wire duo that comes out of the shifter stalk
