My 14b I just got! Crack in exhaust flapper
I just got my 14b, it looks to be in good condition with very little shaft play but I have one consern.
There seems to be a couple big cracks by the flapper and it doesnt seem to close all the way with my actuator bar connected to it. It seems as if the actuator should me moved up a little. So I was wonding if I could move the actuator up a little by putting washers in the actuator mounting bolts? This would seal the flapper all the way, but do you think it would hurt anything buy not letting it open all the way? ![]() See the cracks! What do you guys think? ![]() This picture isnt really clear but can you seen the light comming through the flapper area!

Re: My 14b I just got! Crack in exhaust flapper
Those cracks are all perfectly normal as far as number, location, etc. But they seem awefully deep... You didnt show a pic of it with the flapper closed, but if its off to one side, you can "adjust" it with a hammer. Over time the flapper arm will slide through the hole it comes through. Hard to exlain, easy to do.
The good news is that poeple blow up 14Bs all the time, and they are not worth rebuilding. So there are tons of decent turbine housings out there for short money. I usually pay 20 bucks at most. And they will all have cracks if they've ever been isntalled on a car. Just try to get one where the cracks are still too small to let any appreciable amount of exhaust gas through. And also note that this has no effect on max HP, just lag.
