Smile Putting it all back together

Ok, heres the story. I had some issues with my teg, so i took it all apart, heads been fixed up, piston rings and such all replaced, all that good stuff that should be done when its this far apart. Was just wondering if there was anyother things i should do while its completly apart, and if there are any tricks all you pros out there have for putting it back together to make it easier. Also, where do i find the torque numbers for all the bolts and such?

Any help would be very much apreciated. Thanks guys

cheapest book with torque numbers is a haynes manual, its a little vague on directions but it will have all the torque specs.

PS: you can find a haynes manual at your local advance auto, autozone, parts america store, etc.for about 10-15 dollars.

if you want a really good manual though I would go with a helms they have a website for ordering them but I am unsure of the name (try google). I believe they are about 60 bucks.

Re: Putting it all back together

Yeah get that book but one thing, you are gonna see that sometimes it will say (inch lbs), that is NOT FT lbs. You will need to divide the # by 12. Like if it says 60 inch lbs, take 60 div by 12= 5ftlbs. Sometimes your torque bar will have inch lbs but not all.

As for making it easier, remeber the saying mesure twice cut once. Take your time. Don't cut any courners and read the book to make sure you are doing it right. I would get ARP head, main, and rod studs if you can just for safety. Good luck!!!

Re: Putting it all back together

Ok, turns out they gave me the right gaskets, but my head didnt fit them. I was thinking that the head might have come off of an earlier model or somthing, the color of the head was white and it was paint, not plastic, also had a blue spark plug wires cover that had red lettering. ANYONE KNOW WHAT YEAR THIS CAME OFF OF?

Re: Putting it all back together

I am assuming that it is a B18C1? If so all the Bseries vtec heads have the same pattern for the bolts. So all b series vtec heads are interchangeable with all B series vtec blocks.

You will need to post up some pics and we could possibly help you out more.

Re: Putting it all back together

I have no idea how to post up pics (me=newbie lol) but turns out it is the head off of a 93' (yes, i do have a b18c1). Is there any reason that someone would change it other then replacement? Could you see better preformance from a 93 head? it does appear to have a bigger intake mainifold on it.

another quick question, how do you guys have it so your "signature" or whatever is shown each time you post

Re: Putting it all back together

For the pics click the gallery link at the top of the page, that will take you to the AF gallery where you have an account already. You just use the same username and password as you do here and yu can upload the pics there. Then when you upload them there you can click on the pic and it will show a link for you to copy and paste into the post. Thats it.
For the signature you have to go ubder user CP and make your signature.

For the head, does the intake manifold tirn up or down. Like is the throttle body turned up or down?

Re: Putting it all back together

If the throttle body sits at the top then it is not a B18C1 head, if the throttle body sits down at the bottom where you can hardly see it then it is a B18C1 head.
