standard or automatic

personly I dont Like automatics like at all
People say that they are good for drag racing and stuff because the are fast and all but that is really down to the driver case you can get very fast in a standard ' stick'
my friend was tellin me that you cant go as fast in a stick as you can in an auto, one day I will have to proove him wrong
so tell me what all of you think

Re: standard or automatic

i would say it all depends on the shift point in an auto trans, and the gears.
for example if they both have the same ratios and the auto gets perfect shifts every time then the auto will win, but if the auto shifts 1000 RPMs before the peak power then the manual will win.
just my $.02

Some of the fastest 1/4 mile times are on auto tranny's...

Re: standard or automatic

that is true
I dont have any real problems with autos
I just think that they are esaly broken, like if you dont baby then then they have problems. and sticks are funner to drive and seem to have good acsseration
and you can choose your gear and stuff

You can set when you want an auto tranny to shift. But you are right, standard is much more reliable.

I just hate getting a cell phone call in traffic, it's a bitch trying to steer, shift, and hold a cell phone at the same time.

Re: standard or automatic

Agreed. I love taking turns with a manual. Especially with tight strut bars all around. You drop that bad boy and accelerate out of the apex. Yeah... i love that. Id stick with the stick tho. From what I've seen, with cars that have the same hp, the auto will take off the line, but a manual will catch up. More gears... IMO

Re: standard or automatic

Fast drag cars alre always autos. Fast road race cars are always manuals. This doesnt happen by chance.
