Angry People copying people

I think it is ab-normal to try to be someone. I just hate all the wonna-be people.
Well, I also have a story and a question now:
My good friend started to do everything like me! He now dresses very similar to my style, even though he never did in the past. He tells my jokes to people, as if he made that up. I started wearing a cool watch my dad gave me, guess what? He now has a watch too!
And what pissed me off the most is that he now wants to become a mechanic. I've love cars my whole life, and always will. Once he met me, he now likes cars (before didn't) and wants to become a mechanic, even though he doesn't know crap about cars (other than what I told/tought him). Also he is pretty stupid, a C student, below level; I am a high B student with above level on just about everything, and because he has no decent career choices he decided to do what I like.

Now I started telling him less and less of my plans and all, also tried to explain to him that he should go for what he likes his whole life, he said he doesn't like/interested in anything.

Any one can help me put in sentances the fact that he needs to start being himself?

Re: People copying people

Absolutely. Sounds like he's struggling to find his own identity, and thinks yours is cool. It's a complement in a way, but still annoying. Try changing your style again, wait for him to change, then change back and tell him the second one was much better for him.

Re: People copying people

Those people who don't try get on my nerves. I see people i think are cool but i don't want to be them. I want to be myself. He is a follower. GIVE him some leadership skills/ confidence and maybe he will stop copying off you. Its a mind thing. How old is this person? Cause if yall are teens then you are going to find people that see you copy you too. But you dont know that do cause you don't know them. High school is fashion show anyway. I don't even like the same things or try as hard since graduating. I see all the new trends high-schoolers are dong and I can care less because there is a much bigger world to display yourself to. And they don't care either.

I sorta' agree with Fred. It's kind of a compliment by still agravating none the less....You try just TELLING the guy to knock it off? Better yet tell someone you know that needs help with their car that this guy can help, preferably a chick he's into, and let him burn himself...then you come in and show his sorry copy-cat ass up. ( and score brownie points with the hottie in the process)

Re: People copying people

i dont see why that makes you mad. that should flatter you to see someone do everything they can to be more like YOU. thats like a compliment. how old are you? this sounds like a high school situation.

i just tried to avoid the person, until they clued in(or found someone else to follow). I don't know if there is a nice way to tell him, I never found one... and unfortunately i ended up with a few enemies in highschool, which can suck just as much.

Re: People copying people

I know, it feels good in a way that somebody thinks I am cool. We are both almost 16 (he will be on Tuesday), the funny thing is that he attracts all the ugly chick, I attract the hot ones, lol.
He told me again yesterday, how he really likes cars now and want to be a mechanic, I explained that this is my thing and it always has been, told him that he needs to find something that he always loved to do, and once again he said he did not like to do anything else before I intoduced him to cars.
I guess people like this just show up in life.

Re: People copying people

Maybe he actually really likes cars now... who cares if he wants to be a mechanic too?

Theres room for both of you at school... and you'll have a sidekick. He's your bitch, he'll do whatever you want.

Re: People copying people

hahaha, actually thats true, I can sort of manipulate him. He still is my friend, and I don't care if he becomes a mechanic, I just think it is not his thing.

Re: People copying people

My best friend that I knew since something like 5th grade did that right around 16, 17... I had this blue NC hat that I ALWAYS wore backwards. Everybody recognized me by it. Then he starts wearing an ALMOST identical NC hat and starts wearing REAL similar clothes as me, a few of the SAME shirts... I was SO pissed. and he's one of those egocentric people too sometimes, (ie, one of my friends a few weeks ago threw a bottle at him, not hard, for kicks, and he slapped it down as hard as he could and shattered my custom made pilsner class with my personal shit custom-etched into it, cost $$$, then refused to take any responsibility whatsoever, wouldn't even help clean it up. "NO! i didn't do shit!!") So I'm like "that's my thing, take the hat off!" he's like "no! hell no!" I ended up stealing and shreding it one day. Then I wore some of his clothes that he bought the same as mine when I'd kick it at his house and slowly stole them. Systematically downplayed it and had to shift my style on occasion cuz he kept copying me. he finally got over it. Ironically, he wants to be a mechanic, actually going for school for it but really I wouldn't trust him with my car for my life... The other day my turbo was spitting oil into my BOV cuz turbo died and i knew it was a fucked up turbo, mentioned it to him he goes "oh something's loose... probably a hose" lol im like "no dood spitting oil through the BOV... that's not loose. that's a dead turbo" he has the audacity to go "well, yeah... something loose in the turbo."

Re: People copying people

15 is still pretty early to find something you want to do with your life. If he decides now that he wants to be a mechanic, then good for him. I understand that it's annoying, because I used to be like that. I had this one friend that moved into my neighborhood, and he always had funny jokes, cool styles, cool sayings, and it was infectious. Everybody started acting like him, including me. Theres not many 15 year olds who know who they are yet. So when they see something cool, they give it a shot. I grew out of that pretty quickly and do my own thing now, but don't get mad because Im sure he doesnt realize how annoying he is. He'll grow out of it one day. Just tell him that you dont mind being his friend but you like having your own style, and you feel like you're being copied, and its frustrating. Hopefully he will get the point.
