Plugs and gap.

I am getting spark blowout at regular stock boost levels (going WOT past about 4.5k will cause studder and the head mechanic for the local 3000GT shop said its the plugs). I have some Bosch platinums laying around that will fit and I have played around and found out how to gap them correctly, but should I get NKG (platinum or copper alloy?)? I might be able to trade them at a shop saying somone bought them for me there and I wanted the NKGs lol.

Re: Plugs and gap.

Also what kinda wires should I get? The stock ones look ok but I think I might replace them as long as I have the plenum off lol. Should I go super high resistance or super low resistance? I'm thinking low if I go copper and high if I go platinum.

Re: Re: Plugs and gap.

I have coppers and MSD's and I get no noise caused by non resistor plugs. MSD's and coppers all the way.

Re: Plugs and gap.

I'm thinking NKG coppers gaped at .32-.35 and MSD wires after doing more research. It sucks not being able to use all my boost lol.

Re: Plugs and gap.

Yea he has real competitive prices and ships real quick. I don't understand why the SOHC wires are so much cheeper though, they've both got 6 plugs to power.

Re: Re: Plugs and gap.

They arent any cheaper. They are $65 shipped just like the DOHC ones. THey are both made by him. I know he has the other ones that are more expensive but not sure on the fitment issues of the made ones.

Re: Plugs and gap.

Yea I was wondering about that, what makes for the difference in price and how well do each fit that you know of?

Re: Re: Plugs and gap.

The only difference in price is one is made in house. IPO should be able to clear up any fitment issues. I know the ones for my SOHC fit nice.

Re: Plugs and gap.

Sweet, I think I'll order from him once I get ahold of my moms credit card lol (dad just payes her bill withought looking at what was charged as long as its not too much). I'm sitting here playing with a plug and the nozle part of a push button blow torch, the arc across the electrodes isn't very impressive but the ones the thing can make to my finger are lol.

Re: Re: Plugs and gap.

Get one of those trick lighters. Works the same way except you hand it to someone to light a cigarette and when they press the button they get the crap shocked out of them.

Re: Plugs and gap.

I changed the front 3 plugs today just to see if they were what was causing my boost problems and its very easy. I used the crappy Bosch ones I had laying around that I gapped at .35, the ones in there were also the crappy bosch type and one was VERY dirty, they were gapped at .45 which is higher than stock so that also wasn't good. Soooo much better now, boost builds higher and I don't get the studdering that I got with the dirty old ones in even though I only changed half of them. Can't wait to get the good ones in on both sides lol! There is definately more power now.
