Question # 4 coil

I just picked up a new coil for my 2000 ls. According to the dealer my # 4 coil is bad. I'm going to give a shot at changing this out myself. How do I know which is the #4 coil?

Just saw this info again on another forum and thought I would share it.

Rear
4 8
3 5
2 6
1 5
Front

I just replaced #8 in mine the other day.

Thank you so much for the info! Are these hard to replace?

No. I created a doc page for it just the other night.

I had to replace a coil a few weeks ago, turns out a leaky head gasket soaked a coil with oil.

Question

How can one tell which coil would be bad? From other posts I've read, it seems like I have a bad coil in my engine, and I would like to try the repair myself, rather than giving the dealer a bunch of money again. Anyway, is there a way to diagnose the coils so I can find the bad one, if there is a bad coil? I'm new to this whole car repair/engine work thing, so go easy on me if this should be obvious.

Some people are lucky enough to get extended error codes out of the computer. I just swap a new coil around until it is fixed.
