I'm looking for the procedure to read and then clear the Check Engine Light on my 96 Ranger (3.0L). I know I can have Autozone read and clear the code but I'd like to be able to do it myself without driving 30 miles.
Thanks in advance for your help. Four Z's |

Re: What is the procedure to read / clear the Check Engine light on 96?
Purchase a generic scan tool with the ability to read and erase codes.

A code reader is the ONLY way to read & clear the check engine light on a OBDII compliant vehicle (all 1996+) I have this one, and it works like a charm: http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/cta...emnumber=46030 and yes, it will clear the codes and make the CEL go out- of course it will come back after a short time if the condition causing it still exists.Joel

Sorry I upset you FOURZS. But you asked how to do it and I answered. If you want to do it yourself, that is the only way. Unless you know someone that has one you can borrow. Again I apologize for making you upset.
