I don't really know much about the article but i think that it just makes it burn more gas and waste less

Re: 25% better mpg 30% better horse

Since combustion engines compress the fuel and air mixture, the high compression can actually detonate the fuel. Think about it like this: during the compression stroke, the fuel is under a lot of pressure being squeezed together, and this may blow the fuel up before the spark plug lights it instead. Higher octane levels decrease the chance of this happening. You really only need a high octane fuel if you have a high compression engine.

Re: 25% better mpg 30% better horse

A'ight....i Just Put This Motor In Over The Weekend And Ive Been Running Premium Gas In It...just Wondering If Acetone Would Do Something..if I Just Added That And Got 87 Octane Instead Of High Octane Gas That Is Expensive...so I Guess I'll Stick To Premium For Now..

It only ups the octane a few points, if mixed to increase gas mileage. If you mixed it for higher octane, you would get worse gas mileage that with gasoline fo the same octane rating.

Re: 25% better mpg 30% better horse

Yeh i think im gonna definatly try this. But ill hafta get a full tank first to test mpg. note a full tank, not a tank from F cuz the F on the guage isnt full. so i will test from completely full to 1/2 cuz that really the only acurate way to do it. Do that a few times then go find some acetone (pronounced acit-tone). And after a few 1/2 tank runs with that ill report my findings. All i have to say about the deterization of plastic parts is that it would be non-existant. ie: yes acetone corrodes plastics, also yes clorox is harmful to drink, however if you drink 3oz. of clorox in 10 gallons of water you will never even know at all! The amount of acetone suggested is so small im curious as to how it could even effect mpg. but who knows....its worth a try.

Has ANYONE tried any of those gimmicks? I can almost buy into the water-injection system. I have seen that many times before. I can't believe it would still be around if it was a complete rip-off.

Re: 25% better mpg 30% better horse

In my experience higher octane gas burns faster. You get more power and less mileage. My old 64 Corvette with 327/Powerglide would spin its rear tires on Chevron Custom Supreme (103 octane) and would not on Super Shell (100 octane). I was going to switch to Chevron til I saw how faxt the tank emptied (and no, I wasn't driving it harder).

Lots of changes can affect seat of the pants performance. My son installed a K&N FIPK intake and Gibson cat-back exhaust on his 04 Silverado. It now peels out from a standing start, which it would not do before.

Re: 25% better mpg 30% better horse

Yeh guys i dont this is workin well at all for me. last fill up of regular gas with open cut outs got me 150 miles from complete full to 1/2 tank, which is about 12mpg (better than i have gotten in a long time anyway). But after that i filled up again with regular and as of now its past the 3/4 mark and right at 70 miles. Not done with the test yet but im pretty sure its making my gas mileage work. As far as power i have no real way to judge that but there is nothin spectacular or even noticeable. I have been told by a mechanic that no matter what the onctane rating of fuel is it will effect a vortec engine little if any. Just the same deal as vortec engines run the same on regular 87 as they do on premium 93. I will post my exact findings when done then do a test with the cut outs closed. Also if ever the diesel shop in town gets its dyno building done i will test the performance on that. I get to run for free any time i want cuz Im doing the plumbing for them.
