Angry timing chain noise!

well i took my car to some red neck dude to put in a new water pump. since the guy put my new engine in last august, i figured the water pump would be under warranty since it was a new one. i was wrong. the next day i called to see if my car was done and he said he messed up the timing chain, so i had him put a new one in, so when i get the car back hes like oh yeah listen to this, and he started the car... the loudest rattling sound i ever heard came from the engine >:O he said it should go away in a week or so, but im not too sure about that. any ideas on how to fix the problem?

i also found out on the ride home, my brakes are screwed, little or no pressure when i hit them, the peddle just drops to the floor... but im gonna try to put brake fluid in to see if that fixes the problem

Re: timing chain noise!

find a new mechanic. a new timing chain should never make much noise. sounds like he left the tensioner out.

Re: timing chain noise!

Last week I had my timing chain and water pump replaced. That too was followed by a pretty awful rattling noise. Turns out it was the serpentine belt tensioner. Why it went right after the timing chain replacement, I don't know. But a new belt tensioner fixed the problem. Might be something to consider in your case.

Two busted brake lines? What's this mechanic using to fix your car, a chainsaw??
