98 F150 front brakes
V6 2wd shortbed reg.cab...front brakes were sticking/hanging up last yr..would pull to the left then to the right,,back and forth, never both at the same time to the point of burning then would just stop only to return another day,,OK,,I did replace the master,,it did help a lil,,were not as bad, then came back again..then repaced the calipers/both sides good for several days,,Right side pass. front is hanging still will not release all the way like the drivers side..rotor is hotter on this side as well..these brakes Have been bleed properly several times!! and still pulls to the right all the time...my last option is to replace thr right brake line?? some say there is some type of block in the front lines also,,is this bad also???? the right fnt brake always comes on first when braking...Any help would be great without going to dealer or shop...

Re: 98 F150 front brakes
Did you lubricate or replace your caliper slides - sounds like one of them isn't sliding. And if you have 4 wheel ABS you may need the assistance of a shop with the right equipment to bleed them properly. IE: the correct scan tool that can open up the abs unit and let the fluid flow thru for a thorough bleed. However, it sounds like something is sticking or hanging up. Were your calipers new or quality reman, or cheapo rebuilds. some of the crap that comes out of big box auto parts stores never ceases to amaze me. Even on brakes and other safety related items. I feel a rant coming on - gotta go!

Sounds like something sticking to me also.
Pull the pads on that side. Reinstall the caliper (sans pads) and make sure it slides easily. lubricate as needed and reinstall with pads. (be sure they are clean, no grease, oil, brake fluid on the friction material). If no help then see if you can get it to stick. Then crack the bleeder open. If it frees up then something is holding pressure on the brake fluid. Could be a bad hose, pinched brake line, ABS, proportioning valve(not likely),or the master cylinder in that order. Good luck. |

New original eguipment Master and both calipers..brake lines are like new no kinks or the like and the hoses are in the same shape..all new right down to the bolts..when you release the brakes the drivers side retracts and releases and no drag so to say but the pass. side only releases just a tiny bit and still drags/holding causing this problem..I even switched them around jacked up not driven and even the one from the drivers side hooked up to the pass. side did the same thing..So it has nothing to do with the calipers at all !! I have bleed it with a vacum pump and the ol pump by foot method ..It does have the ABS system but I dont know how to properly,,I have bleed brakes for yrs without the new ABS sys. and never had anything like this before..I had even done work to my windstar with ABS also and didnt have this problem when I bleed the brakes on it>I repaced all the lines on it due to salt corrosion< but neverhad one not release like the F150..Something is not releasing period all the way..I can push back the caliper piston with no trouble at all...kind of a stumper???

Re: 98 F150 front brakes
Obviously there is pressure on the passenger side causing the brakes to drag. I don't believe that air in the systyem would cause the one side to drag. I would troubleshoot it from the mastercylinder. With the vehicle raised and the brake dragging, crack the line going to that wheel. If it releases then it is something in the mastercylinder. Then go to the next connection, probably the proprtioning valve, and crack the line there. If it releases, it is in that valve. If not on to the next connection, the AbS, If it releases, it is in the ABS. If not on to the next connection, probably the steel line and hose connection, if it releases there is blockage in the line. If not on to the caliper,if it releases then the hose has a restriction. I have had hoses collapse on the inside with no visible sign from the outside. If not it is time for the BFH.
Let us know what you find and good luck.
