Cruise Control Issues

94 Cam 2.2l. My criuse keeps kicking off after about 10 minutes of perfect operation. I get 5 flashes of the "cruise" light on the dash. I have dumped the criuse computer codes (1-3) indicating I have an actuator problem. I swapped the entire cruise actuator assembly from another 94 (I have 2!) and it worked fine. I got another acutator assy from the junk yard and I have the same faults (yes I cleared the faults from the computer). It does behave a little differently so the part did make a differnce, just not the result I wanted. Here is my question. There appear to be two different electric motors used, as the one I am having problems with and the one I got from the junkyard are about 1 1/2 inches in diameter and 5 inches long. The one off my other car is about 2 inches in dia and about 3 inches long, obviously a differnt motor. I have searched the Toyota bulletins and can find no discussion on the issue. Did they switch to different actuator motors? Haven't found them aftermarket yet. After dissassembling the electric motors, the brushes look a little short, but not worn out. I am going to stretch the springs a little, thinking that as the brushes approach their wear limit the springs are not exerting enough pressure to keep them in good contact with the armature. Who knows.

Re: Cruise Control Issues

Crapping out after a couple minutes of correct operation implies an electronic problem related to heat sensitivity. Look for a heat-sensitive component on a circuit board associated with the cruise control.
