Rate your brakes!

This is all about factory brakes. I am not a big fan of them. They seem quite soft to me and it takes a lot of pedal to stop. There is also a grinding noise during braking, but its not really a mettalic noise. I have had my car in 3 times for brake work and still no good news. Pads are fine, maybe its the rotors, i dont know. 5 out of 10 for me on the RSX braking system!

Re: Rate your brakes!

Yes, they do suck.....almost like GM brakes. This is my first Honda/Acura, and I am disappointed in the brakes, among other things. I'd give them maybe a 6 or 7. I just ordered some Hawk pads in the hopes of creating some increased stopping power (the factory pads are almost gone anyway). Have heard good things about them.

Re: Rate your brakes!

On a scale of one to ten...they suck. If I wasn't already looking forward to a Nissan, I'd invest in a good Brembo kit. Let the next sucker deal with it...

Re: Rate your brakes!

I'm gonna put so much NAWWZ in my RSX that my floorboards will fly out and allow me to stop the car Flinstone style. The stock brakes + Michelin tires = outstopped by the Jeep Grand Cherokee Hemi (as seen in the Jeep commercial).

Brembo!!! :22yikes: Wow!! You horticulturists do make a lot of money.........I am in the wrong business!! Was just drooling over Brembos yesterday - and then I saw the price and I passed out for about an hour.

I just ordered a set of Falken Zief (?) 512's..........I hope they're like sex with a prostitute - don't know what sex with Ms. Berry is like......unlike Mason!

I read all the reviews of the Falkens on tirerack.com and they even get an excellent rating in snow!! And excellents or superiors in all other categories. Even Consumer Reports picked them as a best buy. $342 OTD, six months same as cash. Can't believe they don't have them in stock; I have to wait until next week.

By then I should have my Hawk pads to install too......

Re: Rate your brakes!

I swear by Falkens. Don't laugh, but i had some on my 89 escort GT (a temporary car when my CRX got wrecked) and they saved my life. I had the 512 tires and my friend and i were distracted by a mysterious light under the center consol. Well being stupid, i was trying to figure out why it was there while driving. Next thing i know , i look up and am doing about 45 with a stop sign about, ohhh say 20 ft ahead. The road didn't keep going, so running the stop sign was not an option, and i surely wasn't going to go head first in a ditch. I applied the brakes with great pressure, and yanked the wheel to the right. Amazingly, the falkens didn't even squeal, lose traction, or feel like there were about to break loose at all. I have been hooked by falkens perfomance ever since. I love em almost as much as canuck loves clay aiken.

Re: Rate your brakes!

Sounds good to me! I keep hearing mixed reviews (now that I ordered mine) and they seem to be very polarized. Either they are great or they suck according to these people. Mostly though, I hear that they are great.

Looking forward to getting them on this Sat. Gotta at least be better than my stockies with 40K miles on 'em!!

Re: Rate your brakes!

Well I finally got around to installing my Hawk HPS front pads last night. (Yes, only the fronts so far.) And I have to say that the brakes still pretty much suck. Yup - I lubed everything, had the rotors machined - and put everything back on properly with lots of grease (not on braking surfaces as far as I know).

Hopefully they will improve when I replace the badly grooved rear rotors, but I'm not getting my hopes up too high since the rears don't do much of the braking..........

You still have to break then in a little I believe, takes about 500 Miles or so. Thats what it said in my EBC pads, though, still havent gotten a chance to test them yet since my car is once again in the shop.

Re: Rate your brakes!

I forgot to update you guys on my brake job.....this place been so quiet lately I have been hanging at clubrsx mostly....

I finished the job Sat. So I replaced all corners with Hawk HPS and resurfaced all rotors. The rears were in horrible shape.

Bottom line is, the brakes are maybe twice as good as before, maybe even better. Smooth and much shorter stopping. Make a little more grinding noise, but no big deal. All for approx. $150 US.!! :Lol2:

I am still wondering why the rear rotors were so badly grooved.......and why my buddy's '03 Civic 5 speed's tranny is so silky and mine..... well you know the story about these trannys...........
