Metal to Metal sound when turning?

Whenever I back up with the wheel turned right or left, I hear a squealing sound. Almost like metal to metal sound. It kinda comes and goes why backing up. I looked over the cv joints but they're just in find condition. What could it be?

Check your dust shields. I had the same sound. Turns out my dust shields were rubbing against my rotors.... no idea how it happened but it fixed my problem.

Re: Metal to Metal sound when turning?

is it a squeak or a clunk? cuz i know if its a clunk then its some worn joints in the steering asssembly. but if its a squeak then i dunno. maybe something needs to be lubricated or something. if i was in that position i would just take apart the sttereing assembly and try and figure it out. but then again i have two rides soo...

jack you cars up, and look for any signs of rubbing in the wheel wells, you know maybe one of the tires is rubbing on the splash guards around the engine bay (my car does that with my winter tires on. You'll find something if you look hard enough, whether its tires rubbing, suspension, axles...

Ohhhh alright. so it squeeks as your turning the wheel? I thought you meant that it was makin noise with the wheel held around a turn or somethin. Try to listen if its coming from the strut bearings. thats right under the hood basically right at the top of the strut tower. Or if its coming from under the car where the rack is at. hopefully its not the rack because thats no fun to replace oh yea also, where do you live? if its cold where you are and since it only happens in the morning, maybe a bushing?

Re: Metal to Metal sound when turning?

Well I looked at the front drivers side wheel since that's where the noise is coming from. I couldn't fine any sign of the dust shield rubbing or even the rotor being loose. The tire is also not rubbing up against the body. But now since summer is coming and things are warming up, I'm finding the squeaking coming alot more but now it's not just the turning. it'll do it when I'm in a straight line. Also the squeaking only happens when I reverse. WTF is going on here? Seriously?
