Question 67 Vette Rim color

Hello, I have a bit of a quandry..... I recently bought a 67 Vette, the ralley wheels are black and not the usual silver color... I have restored the car and the previous owners said the car came from the factory with the black colored wheels. My research has revealed that the last 500 Vettes of the 67 model year were produced with the black colored ralley rims.... if anyone out there can validate this I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks ...

Many moons ago I had a '65 convertable. I bought a set of '67 wheels and they were silver. I REMEMBER thinking of trading mine for a '67 427 coupe and the wheels were black. Maybe some kind of detail package?

Re: 67 Vette Rim color

In the summer of '67, between high school and college, I had a job doing "dealer trades" between Chevy agencies in Southern California. Most of the trades involved 'Vettes; at the end of Sting Ray production most of these were 427/435 models.

Say we had a Goodwood Green fastback on the showroom floor, and a buyer liked everything but the color, preferring Tuxedo Black with a red stinger stripe and interior.

We would check shipping records and inventories to find another dealer with a car fitting the buyer's specifications. If a dealer was willing to swap cars I was in business! I'd strap my spring-hook equipped dealer plates to the green car's bumpers, disconnect the speedo/odometer (legal back then) and drive to the other shop.

At the other dealer I would disconnect the black car's speedo, check that it had a spare, jack, no missing items, oil and water in the engine and away I'd go!

Some cars, especially dark-colored fastbacks, seemed to have the black Rally wheels. I never gave it much thought as some dealers liked to add little touches to their stock (one of the coolest was CHROMING the Rally wheels to march the center caps, then leaving the trim rings off so the rims looked extra deep). But it's quite possible the black finish was a factory feature. I'll ask some of my old-time 'Vette people.

Re: 67 Rim color

Thanks for your help guys.... I've had answers all over the board, everything from "the last 400 Vettes of 67 were shipped with black rims"....to.. "only big blocks had black rims"... I'll probably go on the assumption that the original owner made the choice upon ordering it.... but I'd appreciate any further info concerning the issue.... Thanks
