This damn crank pulley

Ok, i am starting to get a little pissed at this motor i got. I am trying to take the crank pulley off and i have been at it now for about 2 hrs now hitting it w/ an impact, PB Blaster penetrating oil, hammer and breaker bar, u name i have taken a wack at this thing w/ it and the freakin bolt don't even budge. I also heated the bolt w/ a little propane tourch but trust me on this, make sure you get all the PB blaster out of the pulley before you attempt this. As it could possibly singe some eyebrows off if you can't get away quick enough. But n-e-way i am stuck like chuck on this and can't seem to get anywhere w/ this. Any suggestions. I am running on about 80 to 100psi

It's not left handed threads is it, cause i think the book would tell me if it was but just to make sure.

the bolt is just like everyother bolt, left to loosen. try more cause i tried 90 whihc was stock and usually it breaks at no more tahn 120 on my compressor. but i just changed the timing belt on a tacoma and i had to go to 150 before it broke

I need a better impact too. I have some no name brand so i am trying to find someone around me to let me borrow a snap on or mac tools gun and see if i can get better results too. The impact that i have says not to exceed 90psi or it is possible of it blowing apart so i was a little nervous when i ran it up to 100psi

LOL i ran my craftsmn one, said 90 max. I had the compressor at 140psi. LOL!!! You could also use a breaker bar with like a 5 foot fence post (worked best for me) Otherwise it needs to be heat up much hotter!

Well i would use a breaker bar but i have no really good way keep the motor from turning. I found a tap that was the thread size of the pressureplate bolts so i decided i would stick a screwdriver through the hole to keep it from turning. Long story short, no more screw driver, snaped like a twig, and the hole on the pulley it self is even smaller than that hole. I then put a steel rod through the hole that wasn't hardned like a screw driver and it just would bend it till it didn't catch anymore and almost hit myself in the head w/ the piece of pipe i was prying with. Could have been a pretty good bump it i would have followed thru. I'll try and set the pressure higher but i have had just about enough. Ya know where ya get to the point when your so frustrated and if ya keep going your just going to break something, well almost made it there today, so i am going to sleep on it and keep coating it w/ the PB Blaster and let it soak over night and get at it tomorrow. Just been one of those days.

mine is only 90psi max but i still ran it to 150psi to break that bolt. i just completely filled up the gun with oil so help absorb heat and protect parts

You could always try cramming like 5 feet of rop into a cylinder. That worked fine for me once and use a breaker bar!

if your gonna use a breaker bar, make sure you got a impact socket on the end of that ratchet. and most likely the ratchet will break. i had a six foot cheater bar on the end of my 1/2 inch drive craftsman with a 17 millimeter socket. me and my buddy were doin a timing belt. well im jumping up and down on the goddamn cheater bar. then we hear this giant crack. and i waws like " hell yes it broke loose." i then proceeded to pull the remains of the socket off the pulley.

lol, seems that this is a common prob. But i guess atleast we know the damn thing isn't going to fall off while we are driving if its torqued to spec.

Finally, man that was a job. I ended up having to talk the local tire shop into letting me borrow one of their haus daddy guns for a little while at cranked up the pressure to about 145 psi before it finally came off. But it's off phew.

had that problem last year, crankshaft pulley bolt wont come off. had to buy an expensive $300 craftsman impact wrench at sears. i was really careful using it because I returned the inpact wrench later and got my money back.

lol. If i had a sears close i would have done the same, but i am in poe-dunk-ville here and it takes 45 min to get to a sears so i was a little hendered in that area so i found the biggest redneck around and borrowred his mack daddy gun and it all worked out. I was just glad to get that thing off.
