What do you think is my surging problem?? 95 3.1

Ok, I have read ALL the post on this forum. I am trying to figure out what my surging problem is, so I will describe everything I can, and put a poll up about it.

My 1995 Grand Am has 150,000 miles. For the last 20,000 or so, it has had a problem with surging. As I travel down the road, at any constant speed(but more noticable at low speed) my car surges intermittantly.

If I floor it, it takes about 3 seconds, then kicks in with tons of power. If I drive at speeds of 65 or greater, I don't notice it except it seems to take longer to pass someone.

When I come to a stop, it most times feels like a manual tranny without the clutch activated. If I put it in nuetral, that goes away. The car also vibrates when it has the loss of power/surges.

I have replaced the wire set within the last 40,000 miles. The wires within the last 15,000(since I noticed the surging). My air filter is KNN, and I have cleaned it. There is no MAF sensor. My map sensor was tested off the car at Autozone, and behaved exactly the same as a new item. My TPS sensor tests the way it should according to the procedure. Plugs were replaced within the last 10,000 miles with acdelco originals

I have noticed a buildup on the front middle cylinder(#4?) spark plug that I think is antifreeze, since I have a bit of a loss over time. I also burn a bit of oil(1/2 quart in 1,000 miles).

So what is my problem?

Hey, i had a problem somewhat the same, and it was a sensor in the tranny. here is a quick little test you can do to see if it is a sensor in the tranny.
On your tranny when you pop the hood, you will see a electrical connector this operates the sensors in your tranny, unplug it then take your car out for a drive, you will nictice the CHECK ENGINE light will come on and off thats because your computer is noticing that it is unplugged. if your car drives fine than you know there is a sensor shot in your tranny. it cost me about $400.00 fix it. i hope this helps you let me know how you make out

I tried unplugging that sensor wire. I guess on a 95 it does much more than on other models because it dies as soon as I put it in gear.

well, somethings you may check are the fuel pressure regulator, should be 40-50 psi i think, the fuel filter and injectors. I would start looking at the above items first, being they are cheaper to repair than the TSS in the transmission. good luck
