belt
one of my belts squeel when i start the car cold... Its usually if i have the defroster on, or a lot of accessories. Im assuming its the alternator belt. can i tighten it? on my old car there was a bolt to tighten the tensioner pulley. Is it the same on my 95 corolla? if so where is it? or should i just get the belt replaced?

I'm not sure where any of this is but here's what my manual says for pre-97 rollas:
If you don't have access to a belt tension guage, try this method. Push firmly on the belt with your thumb at a distance halfway between the pulleys and note how far the belt can be pushed (deflected). Measure this deflection with a ruler. The belt should deflect 1/4-inch if the distance from the pulley center to pulley center is between 7 and 11 inches; the belt should deflect 1/2-inch if the distance from pulley center to pulley center between 12 and 16 inches. To adjust the alternator belt, loosen the alternator pivot bolt and the lock bolt at the alternator bracket. Now turn the adjusting bolt [to desired tension]. When proper tension is achieved, tighten the lock bolt and pivot bolt securely. |
