diots. standing in line in the freezing rain at 1130pm just to get their hands on a psp at midnight. yeah...i'm laughing at myself.


af's resident gadget whore has gotten his hands on the newest gadget, the psp. it is a beauty. the screen is gorgeous. the built in wifi, irda, it feels solid. the game selection now leaves much to be desired, but more are in the pipeline. once the public gets their hands on this, the gba ds won't stand a chance. the white apple ipod earbuds will be jealous of my white psp earbuds. while they're listening to yanni and u2, i'll be watching movies, playing games in addition to listening to mp3 (yes, this sony product has mp3 playback, hard to imagine, huh?). sony calls it a lifestyle device. how well it suceeds in bringing real world usability in that department is to be seen. they are supposed to do a firmware upgrade to be able to browse the internet on the built in wifi. we'll see.

ah...now my gba ds is collecting dust. it was nice while it lasted. time to send it to ebay. *sigh* now i gotta wait for the ps3/xbox360/revolution...damn, i'm such a gadget whore....now if you excuse me, i have to go and grope my handheld, it needs to be caressed, held, touched, molested...





now how much longer for ps3/xbox360/revolution???

It's like 500$ for one of these...you can get a portable DVD player for less. It's main use is obviously games...comes with 32MB memory not very mp3 friendly.

probably, i payed for the bundle with spiderman2 265 USD. Its funny it was a rather compulse buy, i was with a friend to buy one for himself at the last store to have them in utah valey and I was hey what the heck lets get one since only the first few will have the free movie.

I have no opened it yet since i don't know if i want one or not. I'll use that guys psp for a while and see if I like it.


BTW skubee-raw he is really having some issues with his, 2 dead pixels (I hope that is not very common), and his PSP reboots when he tries to upload files via USB. We tried it on a few computers and a few times it worked but more often than not it wil crash. Have you experienced any of those problems?

Also as a last concern when it does work the transfers are quite slow even on USB 2.0. How are yours?

there have been numerous complaints about the dead pixels, that's what sony gets for trying to rush out products to try to meet demands. either way, it's a no win situation. rush out products to meet demand, consumers get mad for lack of product quality. don't rush to meet demand, consumers will get mad and start paying twice for the product and ramming each other with shopping carts. anyway, i guess i'm lucky. i squinted, glared, stared and do not have any dead pix. next, i haven't tried the usb route, since my laptop is a vaio, so it has the memstick reader built in and that's how i transfer files to the psp.

lastly, eversio, yeah brainchild, yeah, portable dvd players are cheaper than the psp. but look here bright one, i didn't get it to soleyly watch movies. it's not like i'm gonna start buying umd's instead of dvd's. i got this to play games. just like any other handhelds i got, they all play games. whatever features that come second, whether it be music, movies, and the likes, then fine. sure, 250 is pretty steep, but hey, you gotta pay if you wanna play.

Yeah makes me think about returning mine and buying one in a few months time when they have most of the bugs worked out and amyeb that rumored firmware upgrade. But honestly they have no excuses for dead pixels. I just bough a dell1905FP and my roomate has a 2001FP both 19 and 20 inch and both have 0 dead pixels which is rather the standard on new quality lcd. Considering how much smaller the PSP screen is it really should not have any dead pixels.

i have my doubts the umd movies will ever really take off, probably just for new popular releases. What game(s) did you get with it?

nintendo has made another huge mistake...their gonna be the next Sega.

I dont think Nintendo will be the next Sega because they dabble in alotta other business other than consoles and handhelds. i.e. pokemon

But they're not a competiter anymore, they just exist. Its Microsoft vs. Sony now.

I heard that Sony wont exchange or fix PSPs with dead pixels too. While Nintendo will.

Dabble. Exactly. Pokemon dolls and movies aren't enough to keep a giant alive and healthy. Nintendo's income relies on consoles and games, and why else would they produce them if they weren't a competitor? They have many games that top 1 million sales. I think the "Revolution" is their last chance to develop a respected console(which will no doubt sell, if they time it right). If not, they will be limited to only developing games like Sega does.

One less system would be fine with me... I'm crossing my fingers that companies will someday work together to build a standardized console.
