Desert runner
I plan to drive I-40 from California to Oklahoma this summer. I have an extremely well-maintained 2000 XJ with the 4.0L six and the AW4 transmission. It has 69,000 miles on it. Is there anything that I might consider changing before I head out so that I do not end up stranded with no entertainment other than the shifting whispering sand?
I have installed a new battery, replaced the serpentine belt three times since new. Change oil every 2000 miles since new, replaced the front brakes about 12,000 miles ago, rear brakes about 8,000 miles ago. Kept the trans serviced every 20,000 miles and last serviced it about 10,000 miles ago. Replaced the thermostat, had the coolant drained and flushed and re-filled every year, last time was in December. Rear axel oil has been change three times since new. all shocks replaced 20,000 miles ago. On its third set of tires. Tires replaced 25,000 miles ago and they are Goodyear Wrangler AT/S 30X9.50X15s. Tune ups have been taken care of including major ones at recommended intervals, ect, ect, ect. I was told that the hoses last up to 80,000 miles and have not replaced one, so I might replace all those. The thing I'm concerned about is all those sensors. Any sensors that should be replaced? tb |

Re: Desert runner
Yes, check your a/c refrigerant. It's brutally hot out there in summer.

Yes, do the hoses and I'll meet you in flagstaff...that would be an awsome vehicle for my daughter.

I'm stuck to this baby like glue. After owning countless new Toyotas and even one old BMW I have never been more content with a vehicle than I have ole' "Greeny" as my daughter affectionately refers to it. It takes me anywhere I want to go without the wimpiness of those other cars. It's as solid as my first car, a 1963 Ford Galaxie , and as dependable as my last optionless Toyota truck. But we can race for pinks. I have a competitive streak.... No, lets not and just say we did. Thanks much tb |
