Need New Tires!

Mine is a 2000 LS V6 with factory 16" rims, the time has come to replace the noisy Conti tires, can anybody give me an idea of what a good quiet nice handling tire for my ride would be? I would prefer an all season of some sort since I am in snow country in Canada, thanks all.

Re: Need New Tires!

Everybody I've talked to raves about the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S. Not sure if it's in your size, though. They're kinda spendy, too.

All my experience is in Hi-Po 17" sizes...

I use Kumho Ecsta 711 tires for the summer and Pirelli Snowsport 210 tires in the winter...the Kumho's are great cheap tires and the Pirelli's a bit expensive (but I do have 17" wheels though so they might be more reasonably priced for the 16's.) Both tires are quiet and have performance ratings suitable for the LS.

I would highly recommend a set of summer tires and a set of winter tires over all-seasons. You do pay more for 2 sets of tires over one, but usually end up getting more than 2 times the life out of them because the tread compounds are designed specifically for the weather they will be used in and you can get better treadlife, as well as better performance.

Best thing to do is buy a set of summers now, and in the fall when they have sales on winters pick up a set then...you can even go all out and get yourself some nice wheels for the summer tires so you can put the winters on your 16" wheels and then you just have to swap wheel/tire sets each season rather than paying for mounting/unmountings.

I just bought a set of Kuhmo Ecstra ASX tires for my 16" rims. I like them. They are great around high speed curves, but I guess they could be a little better around mid to high speed corners. They are good tires, but I might add that I have only had them a few days, but tirerack gave them a great review, second only to the Pirelli P-zero nero, but those are expensive. I got a different size than stock, I got P245\50\16 W speed rated. The speedometer is within 1 mph of stock. The only thing is, when the tires sit over night, they are a little bumpy for a mile or so until the sidewalls straighten out. I guess that can be expected with a W rated tire though.

Im fixing to buy some 16 inch Michelin Hydroedge with a 94T rating and they keep bringing up the fact that you have to look on the door sticker for the speed rating for this car.

Bull crap. The wife aint gonna go 118 mph!!!

I currently run the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S tires and love them. Before that I had Hankook Ventus K104's and they were great until about 8,000 miles. The Hankook's started to wear funny and it sounded like a 4x4 inside the truck they were so loud. Orignally my LS came with the Michelin Pilot MXM4's. Those were some nice tires too. I'm a firm believer that you get what you pay for with regards to tires. Do your research on them.

Re: Need New Tires!

Have '04 V8 17"- replaced MXM4's with 235-50-17 Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 tires. Rides like velvet with extreme grip AND is quiet. Soft rubber of ultra performance tires wears faster than conventiona tires but the ride when good is fantastic. As with other tires, the tread lasts longer than the performance and it appears they are strong for about 16,000 miles. Have 13,000 on mine and while they look and ride well, I'll likely replace them in another 5,000 miles or less.
