amp keeps goin into protect

have a problem i need some answers if ya got em...

i 2 10" diamond cm310d2 subs (2 ohm, DVC) - 500 watts rms each. These are hooked up to Hifonics BX1500D amp. I have the the subs wired in a series/parallel to 2 ohms into the amp and the amp is advertised to push 1000 watts at 2 ohms, and is stable down to 1 ohm. The loud bass is fine at low volumes (under 18 usually), but over that with the bass turned up the amp shuts off into protection mode and i have to turn the deck off, then on again to start the bass again. I know its not a lack of power (fine battery, 1 farad cap, and 4 gauge wire going back). Does anyone know what could be the problem? Do the equalizers on the amp have anything to do with maybe why the amp is shutting off?

Re: amp keeps goin into protect

If your gain setting is set too high it could cause it to go into protect at loud volumes. Also, if your ground wire to the amp is too long or isn't making a good connection with the chassis it'll do that. Or damaged speaker wire would do that. And last but not least, you went wrong somewhere with your sub wiring. Double check the nominal ohm load with a multimeter just to be safe. If all those check out then you have a bum amp.
