1994 S-10 2.2 liter, engine surges at cruise, slight decel
I am new to this forum to begin, and I am a Chevrolet Technician. 2 co-workers, my Service Manager, and I are stumped... I recently aquired this vehicle for a low price because the Clinder Head was cracked. I replaced the head the day I bought it, also plugs, wires, t-stat, air filter, PCV valve, fuel filter, and performed an induction, and injector clean. We are stumped because, at a cruise of any speed with no load on the engine, it surges real bad. I have taken numerous "snapshots" with the scan tool, and analyzed all the engine data, and all is within specs. Does anyone have any ideas ? I am almost out of options...

Fuel pump culd be not putting out the right pressure.
Check fuel pressure.

Yes, I have looked at the oil, not milky, and looks as clean as the day I put it in, just 6 days ago. The exhaust has no sweet smell, no smoke (white, black, or blue), smells like exhaust...

Again, check fuel pressure.

I Have checked fuel pressure, Key on it goes to 45 PSI, then when the pump powers down, it goes to 39-42 PSI. I have also ran an Injector Balance test, and replaced 1 Injector that was flowing too high, and the truck still surges...

Fuel pressure is perfect really.
I would check to see if the cat is plugged or if the pump is overheating. Also, are these things happening when the air conditioning or defrost is on? Also, when you are saying it is surging in when cruising, are you stating that you are using the cruise control when this happens? Have you ever removed and cleaned the IAC and the hole it inserts into?

Well, i figured it out yesterday... i will reply to Blazers last post first. Fuel pressure is good, IAC has been removed cleaned, then replaced when it still "surged", the vehicle does not have cruise or a/c, and the HVAC control was in the "off" position. Well, to put you all at ease, and make me a very plaesed owner, i fixed the problem yesterday. The EGR valve was bad, so I replaced that, and it runs like it is brand new...

Yea, I would have cleaned it first, but hey, if it fixes the problem, enjoy your truck.
