fail safe mode?

does anybody know how to get an older escort early 90s out of a fail safe mode.

Check Trouble codes.
Check fluid level. Examine fluid for discoloration. If discolored could indicate transmission failure. Some models also have a solonoid that could prevent shifting. Check Air vane meter operation, incorrect output of this sensor can put the PCM into limp mode.
