Gutted pre-cats

I'm getting a 3sx downpipe this week, and am planning on gutting the pre-cats while iv'e got the dp off. My question is what are my chances of still being able to pass IL emissions with gutted pre-cats/3sx dp/hi-flo cat/and ATR dual cat back?? any advice?...thanx

Re: Gutted pre-cats

Precats shouldnt affect emmissions. Once they are warm they do nothing anyway.

Re: Gutted pre-cats

Some people have had bad luck with guted pre cats and a high flow cat, you might want to put your stock cat back on jsut for the test. Don't forget the warm up though.

Re: Gutted pre-cats

1) check out autozone, they have a bottle of stuff gaurenteed to pass emissions...well it wont, but it will help

2) drive your car hard and get it warmed up on the way to emissions, but like Thourun said...keep your old stuff to swap on in case you do fail.

Also you may get a CEL, if you do you may have some trouble with inspections...

I live in IL, too, what part are you in??? Yea, If I were you, I'd leave my stock stuff on until after u take the emissions test, this way you'll pass for sure, than afterwards do w.e. U want, but that's just my 2 cents.

Re: Gutted pre-cats

The catylist has to be warm inorder to functiuon, it basically is just a ceramic matrix with platinum group metals on hte surface to aid in combustion of errant hydrocarbons and CO.

I'm in Streamwood IL, just outside Chicago, what about you?? If your close we should go out for a cruise sometime..
Well anyway I'm going to install the DP and gut the cats just save my stock dp and cat incase I fail, since the pre-cats shouldn't matter if it's warmed up.
