Assorted Problems/Mosty Elecrical
Whew how to start this. About Mid-August last year my dad bought a 96 Grand Cherokee Limited with the V8. About 5 months ago he had to go to the hospital because of cancer. He had been diagnosed about 2 years ago so, while this wasn't good, it wasnt entirelly unusual.
However, before he went into the hospital he noticed that his cabin lights would not turn off, and it would eventually run down the battery. At this time i'm unsure if the headlights stayed on, but i don't think they did. So he pulled the fuses on the passenger side, i think he bought a new fuse and it blew or something. I'm entirely unsure on what he did. He was realised from the hospital abou 4 weeks ago. But he was in alot of pain so i did not get a chance to ask him about it. and last monday he passed away. I'm 17 and don't know alot about electrical problems and fuses and stuff. But, i really would like to be able to take care of this problem with out taking it into the dealer. We plan to sell the Jeep as soon as possible as it is a finacial burden, and a unhappy memory of my father. Any help would be greaty appreciated. If you need more information, i could run out and get find the blown fuse. thanks alot for your help ~Jordan |

Re: Assorted Problems/Mosty Elecrical
Sorry to hear about your father. If your dome lights are staying on all the time you might have a bad door switch (thinking that the door is open all the time). I would try that option mainly because its alot easier than troubleshooting wires. The door switches are very easy to change and they only cost around $11 each. There is 1 screw and a quick disconnect harness to each switch. Start with the driver's door first. Those are the ones most used and that is the one that went out on mine. The fuse may have blown due to the power surge when it was put in. Try disconnecting the negative battery cable before you put a new one in. Hopefully this will fix it. Good Luck and again, I'm sorry to hear of your Father's passing.

Re: Assorted Problems/Mosty Elecrical
I had the same problem on my passengerside, apparently the tip of the switch got wore down or something and wouldn't push the button in far enough when the door was closed to kill the power. I had a 1"x1"x1/4" peice of double stick foam on hand and stuck it to the door where the button and the door made contact and it pushed the button in far enough to turn the interior lights off. I will figure a better way soon but this will work for now.
My Sympathy to you and your family. |

If im not mistaken there is a relay with a timmer in it that kills the lights after abot 45 seconds.. This might be the problem if they are not going off! I think its under the driverside of the dash...
