2007 Ford Shelby Cobra GT500 Mustang

http://media.ford.com/newsroom/featu...?release=20294

What do you guys think? I think Ford did a good job on the looks, but why can't Carroll Shelby get his own car? Putting the Cobra and GT500 together isn't a bad idea, but for SVT enthusist all there is on the outside is small Cobra symbols. And only says SVT on the motor. While you have the word Shelby real big on the back and GT500 on the rocker behind the front wheels. I guess all I'm trying to say is Shelby should make his own car and stay away from SVT stuff. Now don't think I dislike Shelby I just wish he would make his own car instead.

Re: 2007 Ford Shelby Cobra GT500 Mustang

Why should shelby stay away hes basically been modifying stangs since the 60's before SVT stuff was even thought of so dont go staying shelby should stay away from SVT stuff and go build his own car "which he did twice". 5.4's arent engines that are seen in every single SVT. This thing should be sick tho with 450hp and the aggresive styling. once again shelby has produced another great car or "modified another great car"

You stated my point realy, who's car is it SVT's or Shelby's. I think Shelby is a great guy I'm just am trying to say I think he should of made his own and called it the GT500 and SVT can still have their Cobra instead of putting the two together. Now SVT really doesn't have a Mustang of their own because most people will refer to it as the Shelby Mustang or GT500. Unless their are just going to start using SVT for the chassi and drive train only I guess it could make sense, but really SVT doesn't have a Mustang because Shelby takes them and puts his name on it. It's like the Mustang GT's that become Saleen S281's. You really don't call them GT's any more.

who cares if SVT has a mustang or not, i know i dont. Im sure there will still be a regular production cobra soon, ford is just doing the exact same thing that they did back in the 60's, shelby had his modified gt's, and ford built their mach 1s and bosses, no one is upset about any of that

Re: 2007 Ford Shelby Cobra GT500 Mustang

The 60's GT350 and GT500 were Ford Shelby Mustang-Cobras(enough names?). Cobra is a Shelby name, why shouldn't his name be on it? SVT revived the name back in 93 or whenever the first newer cobras came out. SVT never put a lot of badging on their cars.

http://media.ford.com/newsroom/featu...?release=20297

There is a picture on that link of the top of the car so you can actually see the hood.

FYI - all the badging is taken directly from the 67-68 GT500s. The Shelby lettering on the trunk lid, the cobra in the cap between the tail lights(used to be a gas cap in the 60s, now its the truck lock i think?), the striping on the bottom obviously, the cobra tag on the front fenders(above the GT500), and the cobra in the side of the grille. They're all cues from the original GT500. Although the cobra is on the wrong side...

It's alright. I'm really dissappointed that the car doesn't have IRS. That's the only thing keeping me from purchasing one. I may just use that money and invest it ona GT40 replica and turning my 66 Fastback into a GT350 clone.

I think SVT is just the model up of the Cobra. Shelby has made so much money on modifing mustangs, so why not? Besides he makes a Series 1. And where do u think the ACR cobra came from? He knows that in the mustang business he is big, so he makes a bigger name for himself making another car for the fans. Id rather have one of his cars than a freakin SVT 2005. He also makes dodges 2, i just dont remember which ones.

I understood it that Shelby didn't have anything to do with this thing. SVT designed the whole car like they've always done but instead of calling it the "2007 SVT Cobra" they're calling it the "2007 GT-500" in rememberance of the Mustang Cobras of the '60s.

Carroll Shelby and Ford joined forces again back in 2003. Read this:

I love the power plant and the efforts they made to make the car more ergonomical.

With that said, I must say that I am dissapointed with the cars appearance. I know it's classic, but all the friggin badgin has got to go! If we're going to have the cobra on it we don't need the "GT 500". Shelby could've put his name in smaller letters across the back if we needed that. I never thought I'd say this, but I think Ford has come short of my expectations, and that's not an easy feat!

and what should I call this new mustang?

the "2007 Ford Shelby Mustang Cobra GT 500???"

Come on, Ford. Sometimes Less is More.
