I can't decide what I want...

Some of you may remember that I used to own a 1990 Civic STD (70 hp base model) a few months ago. I sold it off, and bought a 1-owner Eagle Talon ESi...

Monday, the brakes on the Talon went out, and I rear-ended a ranger, ruining practically my entire front-end, so I am currently trying to sell the car (all it needs is a new front bumper, hood, hood clip/radiator cover, and headlights).

What I can't decide is...to go back to Honda, buy a B16 or B18, bolt on a turbo, and haul some ass...or buy another Talon or Eclipse turbo and bolt on a bigger turbo, FMIC, etc., etc...

Honda gas mileage and reliability > Eagle Talon/Mitsu. Eclipse's

Eagle Talon/Mitsu. Eclipse 400+ hp potential > Honda's 250-300ish...

Help me decide which one I want.

If you want speed then go with the Talon.
The Eclipse is a "stripper" car, at least in my area. My friend is very lucky to work at a Mitsu dealership, he gets to see how stripper chics every day during the summer.

Cool

Well has you have stated the Honda has better gas and reliablity while the power gains are greater with Mit and or Eagle. Personally, now I do not know where you live, but with gas prices they way they are I would go with Honda.

Is this a daily driver? If it is ask yourself if you will truly being using the full potential of the Mit or Eagle and how often? What good is having a 400+ hp car if you only use it 1/4 of the time and also can you afford the gas that goes along with it?

Either way whatever you decide I wish luck and lots of ardenaline charged fun.

Yeah, the car is a daily driver and will be for the next 4-5 years...

I'm in Texas, and gas prices have done nothing but go up so I'm leaning toward the Honda right now...

Re: I can't decide what I want...

Ummm... you're going to use almost as much gas with a honda as with a mitsu. With a turbo honda, you'd need to use a higher octane gas anyways so it will be pretty much just as expensive. When you do major modifications to a Honda, you're losing a big part of the reliability and gas mileage.

Re: I can't decide what I want...

I won't be doing any major mods like turbo for a couple of years at the least, the biggest mod I do anytime soon after buying the car would be an engine swap if anything.

If I got a Fifth gen it sure as hell wouldn't be a hatchback. And maybe an H22 swap, but never NOS or any kind of n2o. I despise that shit.

the only way i would own a turbo dsm, would be if it was strictly a track car. Every (literally every) friend of mine that has owned a turbo dsm has had major tranny problems, headgasket probs, cracked heads, blocks.... i dunno man. props to you if youve had good luck with them, i just have grown not to trust them too much.

final word, honda reliability
dsm's

Edit: This is just my personal opinion, not trying to bash on dsm's

Re: I can't decide what I want...

Yeah, I've found a '89 CRX Si that I'm looking at. It has a new water pump and timing belt...the only damage on the car is on the roof, and the car is in a near-white primer. He wants $2,200 obo, so I'm going to attempt to talk him down. It has 180K miles on it, but I'm looking at swapping a B16 into it anyway...

What would you recommend as a price for the car if I am able to talk him down?

And also, where can I buy a B16 for a low price, but in good condition?

Re: I can't decide what I want...

I'd offer him $1,500-1,700 for it. The roof will need to be fixed and the car will need to be painted, so that will bring the cost down.
For the engine, try www.hmotorsonline.com

Re: I can't decide what I want...

Ah thanks...

I'm looking at this right now:
30001 - B16A 88-91 (SiR I) Motor, Tranny, Computer
160Hp 111Trq 10.2 Compression (JDM)
$ 1250.00 Plus shipping and handling.

Besides the motor, tranny, and computer, what else is needed? Should I just go for the whole swap kit?

Re: I can't decide what I want...

yes u'll need axles, extra wire for the vtec, mount kit, and linkage. hasport.com has all of that for the swap.
the whole swap kit would be a good idea, it will illiminate most of the headaches of piecing together u'r own swap kit. if u look hard, u could prolly find a swap kit for cheaper than piecing one together.

also another thing to think about w/ the talon/eclipse vs. a civic; weight. the talon/eclipse has like 700+ lbs over a civic. so yeah it kinda needs that more power in order to be just as quick.
