Weird MT problem

OK, this has been happening for about 2 months now. Sometimes when im driving (not even hard) my car slips out of gear while driving, and then pops back in. It has done this in every gear but 5th. I dont know if it is a tranny or clutch problem...or maybe not even either of those. It happens about every other week or so. It slips once, and then it is usually fine. Most of the time it happens on second, and ill already be at like 3K rpm and then the car just jumps to like 5K and then snaps back in gear. It doesnt sound like anything is wrong, and when i step on it in all the gears it pulls the same as if everything were fine....i dont know what it could be. I wanted to ask here b4 i took it to a tranny/clutch place. Thanks

Re: Weird MT problem

i'm going to go with it being a clutch problem, maybe something to do with engagement...just to make sure you don't keep your foot on/ above teh clutch pedal while driving do you?

I know racing clutches are good for FI b/c they hold the hp, but would they last a lot longer for daily driving than a regular clutch b/c they are stronger, even though you dont have FI?

yes it would last longer but it could also cause damage. lets say that you decide to get a Stage 3 clutch b/c you plan on going FI in 6 months. the stage 3 grabs the transmission and the differential very hard. by going with a stage 3 on a N/A car, you run the chance of destroying your stock differential. it has happened to a number of 3Gs. just be careful not to get too strong of a clutch on a N/A car.

That would not bother me any. In my current situation, anything that is not "broken" with my car that I want to upgrade, I pay for. ANything that is "broken" that needs to be fixed my folks pay for...gotta love still living at home. So, If my differential just happens to break, then I guess my folks will have to pay for that also...looks like a 900 $ LSD is closer than I originally thought...lol.

I think the highest ive ever dropped my clutch is like 4000. Even then i got MAD wheel hop...thats probably one of the things I hate the most about this car. My dash is cracked as hell because of it, and I dont even mean to do it half the time...fuckin FWD.

Re: Weird MT problem

are motors mounts hard/finniky to replace for our cars? i,ve done replacements on my work trucks(st.6 & v8cyl) and its fairly strait foward. i imagine its just a matter of gettin' down under there and givin' it a look.
