Ignition Control Module

Well, I finally took my 1991 Lumina to the shop today to get it diagnosed, and It turns out it needs a new ignition control module, and a new oil sending unit. I was looking at the receipt he has given me with the price quotes on it, and the prices seemed a little high. He priced the Electronic Ignition Module at $269.55, and I found one online at autozone for $89 here

http://autozone.com/servlet/UiBroker?UseCase=C001&UserAction=performOemResultS et&Parameters=CONTROL+MODULE-IGNITION|~10489422|~1

The price for the Oil sending Unit also seems a little high to me. He priced it at 46.95 and I seen it on the autozone site for about $10. Should I trust this mechanic, or not? Has anyone else ever replaced their electronic ignition module, and How much did it cost?

Thanks again
JayCub

Re: Ignition Control Module

I replaced my own ICM, the autozone price you quoted is about standard for most retail auto part stores. Maybe your mechanic is adding labor to the cost of the parts. (maybe his gas bill is due).

I've seen shops double the price of parts that you could get for yourself (like $90 for a outer tie rod that only costs $45) - but that's a little outrageous.

replaced IGN mod. on my 91 from Advance Auto for 89.00 a month later it went bad, had a few rounds with the counter guy about the "lifetime warrenty" stated on the reciept. But got a replacement from them , now a month later, so good so far, knock on wood..

They say no returns on electrical parts, reciept says lifetime warranty. ???? then he tried to charge me 5.00 saying they charge that on electrical returns, okay... i asked "i thought you didnt take electrical parts in return?" thats when he forgot about the 5 bucks and handed me a new one...
