Gear Fluid Pours Out!!!!!

So I was on the highway, clutch started to feel a little MUSHY, so I pulled over to get gas and ALL THE GEAR FLUID leaked out! Anyone know whats up? The car is a 89 Civic DX 5 speed, I just put a clutch in it about 9 months ago. I then got some gear fluid and poured it in and as fast as I poured it in, it came out! Someone told me it was the input shaft seal or bearing, anyone know what this is? I am going to order the Centerforce or Exedy Stage 1, with a new pilot bearing, is this going to fix this? (the pilot bearing) Also, it is not making any sounds or hard to shift, just no fluid. I guess that is the mushy feeling. ANy help would be great!

Re: Gear Fluid Pours Out!!!!!

What kind of answer is this, did you get your 3,000 posts attempting to show people up or make fun of them? Motor oil goes in the motor, differential fluid goes __________, try and fill in the blank. Or is it ok that I call it gear fluid. Attempt to use your knowledge to help people, not try to make dumb ass comments, some of us are here to wrench on cars in the quest for more power, performance, and looks. If you cannot help then keep your comments to yourself.

Re: Gear Fluid Pours Out!!!!!

actually i got the 3,000 posts from helping people. from 3001 on, i just make fun of people.

honda transmissions take 10w-30 motor oil. yes, the same oil that lubricates your motor, also lubricates the transmission.

replacing a pilot bearing has nothing to do with keeping oil from leaking out of the transmission. oil can leak from any place where the transmission has an opening, such as input shaft seal or axle seals. If oil is leaking from the clutch housing, then it is the input shaft. if it is leaking by the axles, then it is an axle seal. is that better?

gear fluid LOL

Re: Gear Fluid Pours Out!!!!!

Right on, it is leaking from the clutch housing. What all am I going to need to fix this? I have to get it right cause I am stationed in Germany and there are ZERO parts places where I am, I have to do the mail order thing, and talk to customer service reps with as much info as possible. I just finished ordering the clutch kit, do you know what else I am going to need?

Re: Gear Fluid Pours Out!!!!!

It'll be easier to see what the problem is for sure when you pull the tranny, you should be able to find an oil trail...

and not everyone uses engine oil in thier cars, I personnally use pennsoil syncro mesh, works wonders on our old trannys

Re: Gear Fluid Pours Out!!!!!

if its leaking from the clutch housing then yes, its the input shaft bearing.

And about the how gear fluid thing, I dont call it that, buts its close enough, theres tons of difference names for stuff that are correct in this industry. I usually call it trans fluid.

And I sure as hell DONT use motor oil in my trans, I hear of lots of people doing it, but fuck that. I usually use Pennsoil MTF. Motor oil is for your motor. Trans fluid is much thicker than motor oil as well.

Re: Gear Fluid Pours Out!!!!!

honda service manual recomends Honda MTF. Won't shift right w/o the friction additives.
