are the cops really that strict in cali? Do jdm motors even come with paperwork? Maybe a reciet from the importer? Over here in PA we dont have to worry about this stuff.

seriousley. I dont know what kind of paperwork that you are talking about. Do you mean like a thing telling you the serial # of the car it come out of in japan?? I think a reciept is perfectly fine, and if you dont have a reciept it should be fine unless your in Cali. But if the car gets stolen you will be assesed as a stock engine

i think as long as you have the engine checked out by a ref and he OK's it then your fine. but just purchasing it without paperwork is good. im not up on all the laws and stuff but owning a n16 thats not in isnt against the law. its when you start driving around with the b16 that they start to give you trouble. although i might be wrong. gosh i havent looked it up in sooo long.

It really depends on the state. Some states its illegal to have an engine in your car that is new then the car itself.

But if you buy it and get pulled over, I doubt they would even look at the engine. They'll just take your lisence insurance car and whatnot and not care about the engine.

so is it just cali? over here i've seen pops telling little civics and crx's pop the hood, report serial numbers on engine to operator, then confiscate the car. yes it does happen. i KNOW people from cali has heard this story. right?

Re: Purchasing a b16a w/o paperwork. Dangerous???

the paperwork only applies to motor that have VIN on them, because you need to account for the differences in VIN from the Chassi to the engine/trans, and tipcaly only newer motor 99+ (i think) have those. I'm also pretty sure that JDM motors don't have vins on them either so unless you have a USDM motor in your car form 99 or newer you should not have any problems.

I never got any "paperwork" other than a receipt when i bought my JDM B16 swap OR my DOHC ZC. But when I replace the transmission in my Civic the paperwork showed what car VIN it came from.

Re: Purchasing a b16a w/o paperwork. Dangerous???

Yeah don't worry about it - I didn't get any "paperwork" when I swapped my engine. The only thing that would be good for is if the car got stolen and stripped, then they could trace the engine by the VIN.
