Post 97 F-150 Automatic Transmission Slips

My 97 F-150's automatic transmission will sometimes slip on the upshiftfrom second to third gear. This does not occur very often and subsequently does not kick a PCM fault; in fact had a mechanic ride along and could not get the thing to duplicate the problem. I change my fluid every two years and the fluid is in great shape. I tend to lean towards a bad shift solenoid in the tranny, any thoughts on this are greatly appreciated.

my 98 150 has done this from the time I got it..dosnt do it all the time just seems to be a pain in the butt..doing it for over a yr now but still not any worse than befor,,I dont go like a bat out of hell anymore so I can live with it..I did put a can of Trans X in it some time ago and it did improve it..mine has over 245000 on it but I dont know if it is or ever been replaced..it only will rev up sometimes between 2-3 but has not let me down..V6 runs great after having some real bad vacum leaks that took forever to find and cure,,lots of codes and high idle probs. every code you could find over and over..engine does not leak or use oil at all.. still no idea of the if the engine had any work done to it also..Good luck..

Re: 97 F-150 Automatic Transmission Slips

You may have a broken accumulator spring in the VB. Check out the TRANSMISSION sections at www.tccoa.com for the BEST information on the net about your issue.
